I have to be honest, the only thing I really know about Selena Gomez is that she was in that Springbreakers movie, which sucked, and that she's got the most Instagram followers in the world. I don't know any of her songs (although I'm sure I've heard them), but I know that she's got amazing brand recognition and makes around $500,000 for each of her sponsored social media posts.
The star has been working on a TV show that's set to be Netflix's next big original series.
13 Reasons Why is Gomez's self-proclaimed "passion project" and it's based on Jay Asher's best-selling book with the same title.
A peek at a passion project I've been working on with @Netflix. @13ReasonsWhy arrives 3/31.
The story follows the suicide of a teenage girl named Hannah Baker who's committed suicide. We learn about why she did it through a series of 13 cassette tapes, each dedicated to a different person in Hannah's life that had significantly impacted her.
Gomez said in an Instagram post that her mom inspired and pushed her to get the show produced and worked side-by-side with Selena to get it done.
This was the day I was nervous as hell going into @Netflix for the first time to talk about@13reasonswhy -my mom found this book in 2009 and worked her ass off to make it with me, guide me and tell this story authentically (the only reason, beside Jay this project was even made)
We'll have to wait until March 31st until it comes out, but seeing as Netflix has been killing it recently and the show's source material, it looks like this show's going to crush it with audiences.
